The history of Völkl begins in 1923 in Straubing, Germany, where Franz Völkl founded the company Vöstra, a contraction of the family name and location. This name was later changed to Völkl in 1967. Today, the brand continues to produce in Straubing, where the small family business has grown into a globally renowned ski manufacturer, exporting to more than 45 countries.
'A lot has changed in the last 100 years, but Völkl has always remained true to itself and can look back on a long, successful history,' said CEO of Völkl, Marker, Dalbello Sports, Jonathan Wiant. The 'Made in Germany' label is and remains crucial for us. This claim has helped us during increasing globalization and will remain an integral part of the Völkl DNA in the future.'
Legendary: the Racetiger
Völkl can look back on many milestones in the history of the brand. In 1973, for example, the Renntiger was launched on the market, now known as the Racetiger. In the beginning, the Racetiger was an all-metal ski, until Völkl came up with an idea that was way ahead of its time and quickly proved itself on the slopes: carbon fibre. Today, the Racetiger is still a true legend holding a permanent spot in the Völkl portfolio, alongside many other ski models.
